Das Schmeckt Gut!

When I was in fifth grade, an older gentleman named Mr. Lentz volunteered to teach five us how to speak German. He had served in WWII and married a German woman, who had recently passed away. In her memory, he decided that he would work to keep the German language alive in Northern Virginia, one fifth grader at Tuckahoe Elementary at a time. Mr. Lentz was a pretty cool dude, and I enjoyed my German lessons with him. Although I'm not sure that they lasted all that long, I did go on to get a degree in German, so his efforts weren't in vain.

Mr. Lentz introduced me to the little, tender, powdered sugar-covered spice cookie that the German's enjoy at Christmas time known as Pfeffernüsse, and every time I see them I think fondly of that kind, sad old man. I imagine Mr. Lentz has passed away, but thanks to Trader Joe's, his memory is still alive!

If you live near Trader Joe's or have a private bootlegger, I highly recommend you get these:

Delicious!

It still tickles me that your elementary school was named Tuckahoe, which is so much better than an elementary school named Cohee :)
