Tina Turner Appreciation Day

I declare today Tina Turner Appreciation Day, in honor of all that she did in the 1980s, with almost no regard for her catalog of hits before or after!

Mostly, I just want an excuse to put some reference to the Thunderdome up on the blog, and I was too lazy to create a more oblique and humorous point of entry. So, with blunt force I give you: TINA!

I'll wager that there has never been a time in your life when you were as well built as Tina is here in her mid to late 40s. The Thunderdome is a dangerous place, and the woman in charge is one hot smokin' mama. Two men enter, one man leaves. Seriously, don't be a hero.

In this video, you'll note that Tina has secured the services of the Billy Idol "Dancing With Myself" Dancers (the ones in the molting lizard leotards and tights). I'm not sure they add much to the video but to make it seem edgier than your average completely nonsensical 1980s video. Frankly, I think they are gilding the lilly--Tina is plenty wacky-looking when she shows up in that black sequined gown.

Typical for the era, this video makes no sense, but it does have a runway fashion show and vagrants huddled around a burning barrel. The video that aired on MTV had her walking along an actual street, rather than a sound stage, and it made only marginally more sense.

Does anyone recall an explanation for why Cy Curnin (lead singer of the Fixx) is in this video?

It's not from the 80s, but my favorite song of Tina's is definitely "Goldeneye"... you should check it out! :)
